About Ava:
***Reduced Adoption Fee of $150 for Senior Celebration. Adopt a Senior, they are great!*** Ava gets along great with the other dogs. She will even initiate some play time! She does not do well with cats and will need a cat free home. She doesn't want to hurt the cat but she is relentless in trying to be near the cat. She is house trained and has had no accidents. She knows how to use a dog door and enjoys sniffing around in the back yard. She has recently discovered the joy of dog toys and likes to snooze with a stuffed squirrel for a companion. She is very cheerful and inquisitive and likes to explore. At a recent adoptathon, she wasn't satisfied until she had sniffed every corner of the pet store and greeted every beagle and person she saw. She is a very social and a happy dog with a very beagley personality. Ava is well behaved and likes to hang out in her crate or on the dog bed. She has a limp because of her old injury, but it doesn't seem to bother her much and she goes up and down stairs without a problem. She is mostly a quiet dog, except for a charming snore that helps you locate her when she's napping. She is very enthusiastic about food and loves to eat, but she is not at all food aggressive. Ava is surprisingly playful for a mature dog, and seems to enjoy everyone's company. She has a cute habit of rolling over and rubbing her face with her paws when she is trying to lure someone into giving her a belly rub. She is a very low-maintenance, sweet dog that is a pleasure to have around.
Ava was pulled out of a high kill shelter, just hours before she was due to be euthanized. It was obvious that Ava had a life of neglect. Her emaciated body was covered in dried blood from an open wound on her throat and she seemed unable to walk on her left back leg. This sweet beagle was unaware of her plight and still wagged her tail. Even under these circumstances, Ava’s optimism prevailed. Ava was taken straight to the vets where her wound was cleaned and stitched and an ex-ray taken of her leg. The x-ray showed that her leg had once broken and was now healed but deformed. Ava’s back teeth were also rotten and some hung from the gums. Miraculously though, Ava was heartworm negative. The vet estimated that she was around 11 years old. On arriving at her foster home, Ava was not fazed by her new surroundings. It was evident that her determined and upbeat personality had enabled her to survive years of hardship.
Ava is very responsive to people and loves any affection being offered. On top of the list, along with affection, Ava loves to go for long walks and sniff for good scents. Despite her handicap, she can easily walk 2-3 miles a day. She is a remarkable dog with a positive personality. She has no problem going into her crate and seems to like the security. It is now time that Ava found the home that she has never had and the love she has been searching for all her life.
Sponsor: Ava has been sponsored by TBR volunteer Kristen Lindsay as a gift for her parents. Kristen wrote, "This is for my parents for all of the dogsitting they do in our family. I love you both and appreciate everything you do for me (and Stella, Griffin, & Isabelle)!"
